This is the true story of a fifty-something English grandmother who, realising one day that her efforts to rebuild a conventional life after divorce – new job, home, relationship – were crumbling around her, decided to run away. So she caught the Eurostar to Brussels and kept going, through Belgium, France, Spain, Italy, the former Yugoslavia and Bulgaria, to Sirkeci Station in Istanbul, arriving thirteen weeks to the day after leaving England. Over 6,000 miles by train, bus and boat, never leaving the surface of the planet; staying with friends or finding lodgings on-line; rarely knowing exactly where she was going to be more than a day or two in advance.
